An important part of guiding your clients through their options is to have a deep understanding of what their chosen birthing location will offer. This requires research on the part of the doula to discover the common immediate newborn care policies for the birthing facilities in their community.

Gaining a deep understanding of what the policies are will require legwork. Some information you will have gathered from previous clients. Other information will require outreach on your part to the birthing location. Making connections with an individual on the inside of the birthing location can help expedite this process for you.
