Episode 4: Supporting Infant Feeding

Are you ready to take a deep dive into the world of infant feeding? Grab a chair and a cuppa and let’s get started!

As doulas, so often the little education we receive during our training is focused on supporting one type of infant feeding method. Breastfeeding. We learn how to properly position a baby at the breast and how to look for a good latch. Sometimes we are taught about common red flags and how to help clients resolve them. Postpartum training goes a bit deeper into feeding. Yet it often lacks the delivery of a comprehensive approach to assist clients with other feeding issues.

At the end of the day, the topic of feeding a baby is far more complex than what we learn during our workshops.

What happens when breastfeeding doesn’t go as expected? What about the client who does not wish to breastfeed. Or the client who may want to provide their baby breastmilk. Yet they are averse to the sensation of an infant suckling at their breast.

In this episode, Eva and Angela sit down with Lacey Bauer and discuss all things infant feeding. Lacey is an experienced labor and postpartum doula, Infant Feeding Specialist and Infant Feeding Specialist trainer.

We discuss how to best support clients in their individual infant feeding journey. We also discuss the common physical and emotional stresses, as well as the joys, and tears that feeding a baby can often bring.
