Supporting Cesarean Birth

Episode 28: Supporting Cesarean Birth

April is Cesarean Awareness Month!

With all that is going on in the world today, it’s important to continue to hone our skills as we adapt our support to this ever-evolving landscape.

In this episode, we discuss supporting cesarean births with our guest Christi Banks! Christi is the co-owner of Doulas of Bellingham and has developed a niche in supporting cesarean birth.

Scheduled, unscheduled, emergent, all are types of cesareans that our clients may face. Being prepared to support clients through all types of cesarean birth is an essential skill. As a result, we can help our clients best navigate a cesarean birth with confidence.

We also take a look at the feelings surrounding cesarean birth that many doulas express. At times doulas can feel like they have failed in some way when their clients give birth by cesarean. Whether a result of training or internal bias, we discuss how doulas are not responsible for these and other medical outcomes.

Come join us as we observe Cesarean Awareness Month by educating and supporting birth workers!

Another great idea is going through all birthing scenarios with folks during the prenatal visits. I do this with my clients and they come up with a birth plan\ preferences for cesarean birth as well. I seen this do two things number one, it helps them to feel more prepared, + 2 it reduces anxiety.
